Thongsbridge’s youngest “miniâ€players continue to dominate locally, and further afield, producing some magnificent performances at all levels.
Barney Fitzpatrick and Oliver Vesely both gained entry into the prestigious and high level under 10s National Tour, played in Sheffield. Although Oliver was unlucky not to secure a win in the very strong field, Barney was in superb form, and managed an impressive 3rd place.
Ellie Chawner, competing in the County Tour under 12s event in Batley, showed real promise, and although young in the age group, had some great wins to take her to the final, where she narrowly missed out on the top spot.
West Bridgeford saw George Barton at the top of his game in the under 9s, where he won 5 out of 6 games, coming 5th overall, and Charlotte Margetson, at the same event, won 4 matches, to finish 13th.
Charlotte was also in action in Goole, where she secured 2 excellent wins in a match play event, and older sister, Lucy, in the under 10s, impressively had 3 wins in 3 matches.
In the older age groups, Holly Horsfall, under 16s, got off to an uncharacteristically slow start in the Northern Regional Tour event in Batley, but having lost her first match, she went on to win the consolation draw. Andrew Atkinson, playing the equivalent boys’ event in Leeds made quarters.
Half term promises to be busy for the local youngsters, with all age groups scattered across the country, hoping to continue to climb the rankings.
