Oliver came through a tough first match 4:2,1:4, and finally 10:7 in a tie break against his highly rated adversary Alexander Moore from Bolton Arena. Oliver took the winners medal in 12U age group, beating Damian Crawford 4:1,4:1 in the semi-final and Thomas Horsley from Ilkley 4:1,4:0 in the final.
Orla had a similarly tough match in the first round, beating Molly O’Donaghue 5:4 (1),2:4, 10:3, then she eased past Charlotte Huby 4:2,4:1 in the semi-final. Orla put up a good fight in the final against the No. 1 seed Jayanne Palma, eventually succumbing to her 1:4,1:4.
Jacob Chadwick returned to competitive tennis after breaking his arm in October, at the WCT 10U event in Hull. Jacob had a slow start against local talent Tom Jacobs, losing 0:4,3:5, but his form gradually improved and he beat Robert Smith 5:4, 5:3 and Jack Newton in the consolation draw final 4:0,4:1.
The Thongsbridge Tennis Club hosted a division 7 Matchplay last weekend. Emily Young had a good day, beating Matilda Sreeves 4:2, 4:2 and Caitlyn Owens in a tough match 5-3 1-4 10-5, having been 3:0 down in both sets.
