The Thongsbridge Tennis Club players dominated the 9U category in the North of England Championship last week. Gabriella Lindley and Dominic Vesely only dropped one set on their way to claim the title. Gabriella, having competed the week before in the Nottingham Junior Open National Tournament, proved to be rightly rated amongst the best 9U girls in the UK. Gabriella cruised through to the final, where she met Jessica Spencer from Nottingham Tennis Centre, overcoming her opponent 7:3,2:7,7:1.
Dominic Vesely claimed his winner’s trophy in fine fashion too, beating his Thongsbridge training partner Alex Tikhonov 7:4,7:2 in the final. Dominic’s unbeaten run now stretches to 22. The club success was completed by Ben Parkin winning the consolation draw, having been only narrowly beaten in the first round. Alex, Gabriella and Dominic will represent the club and the county in the grade 2 national tournament series over the coming summer season.
Also competing this week, Barney Fitzpatrick has proven his recent fine form in the Nottingham Junior Open grade 2 12U boys. Barney was deservedly the no2 seed in the draw of 64 top UK boys. Battling the conditions and the frequent rain interruptions, Barney smoothly progressed to the semi-final, where he succumbed 7:5, 6:0 to the current British no 3 Harry Wendelken.
All in all, a fantastic week for the Thongsbridge Juniors!
