Like many members I joined Thongsbridge Tennis Club after watching my older child in coaching lessons and ‘getting the bug’ to play tennis again. In those days- the late 1980s- the coaches were David White and Alan Hinchcliffe, and the sessions were only on Saturday mornings. How our club has grown! I served on the Committee when we made the big step towards indoor courts, a new clubhouse, and gym membership and I am immensely proud to take on the role of Chair of the Directors (from June) of our club at this point of its journey.
The new group of Directors are talented and committed members, all of whom bring skills and knowledge to the Board.
The work of the Board is complemented by the club’s Committee which is brimming with ideas for improving services for all our members. And we also have a dedicated staff team delivering excellent services to our members. I think we are in a very good place as a club and our successes are mirrored throughout this newsletter: fantastic junior results, solid senior tennis performances, inventive and flexible fitness programmes and above all a club committed to its members and to developing a friendly and welcoming club atmosphere. I encourage everyone to join in, in whatever way you can to help us on our journey.
Finally I am sure you will join me in thanking Bernard for his hard work and commitment in his capacity as Chairperson over the last three years. However he doesn’t get away completely, his new position of Vice Chair person, will demand strength and determination to help to build on the successes of the last few years.
