This weekend Charlotte Margetson played in a U12 Winter Regional Tour U12 at Wirral Tennis Centre.
Charlotte’s first match was against Melanie Griffiths, a 7.1. Unfortunately, Charlotte lost her first game 5-7, 1-6, despite playing really well and hitting a lot of winners in the first set. Charlotte began to get a bit tired in the second set, resulting in a few more errors than her opponent. Charlotte then went into the consolation, where she faced Nicole Jones. Charlotte stormed through the match, winning 6-0, 6-0. Charlotte took advantage of Nicole’s weaker backhand and unforced errors, and also took control of the game with a lot of winners and causing Nicole to hit a lot of forced errors with her powerful shots. Her next match was against Millie Mae-Matthews, Charlotte lost 0-6, 1-6. She did her best to move her opponent around and hit it deep, but Charlotte just couldn’t hit the perfect ball. Millie hit a lot of winners and Charlotte moved well. Her final match was against Jamie McCracken where she won with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 score. Again, Charlotte forced her opponent to make a lot of errors and also hit a lot of winners, and kept her unforced error count low.

Also in action this weekend was Robert Sandiford, playing in a Grade 3 at Wrexham Tennis Centre. Robert lost his first match to Thomas Loxley (the no.1 seed) 6-0, 6-0. Despite the loss, Robert really enjoyed his match with Thomas. They were both having great rally’s and great points, and although Robert’s serve wasn’t on form, he was hitting some fantastic backhands! Robert got a bye and a walkover in his next 2 rounds, meaning that he was straight through to the consolation final, where he played Thomas Barlow. After a long wait, Robert eventually got on court, but in the third game he pulled his shoulder after mishitting a forehand. Robert didn’t want to give in so carried on through to the end and unfortunately lost 3-6, 0-6. Even though Robert came away with an injury, he was happy with the way he was hitting the balls and the different angles he was using to place the ball in the court.
A great weekend from our juniors, well done Charlotte and Robert!
