Last weekend, Barney Fitzpatrick competed in an U14 Grade 3 event, in Bolton.
First he played Cameron Ashley-Jones and took the match convincingly, 6-3 6-0. In the 1st set Barney found his opponent quite tricky to play against because of his hard hitting, but in the second set he settled into his game, and was able to read Cameron easily.
Next he played Adam Bolchover. Barney played a very consistent game and took the match 6-2, 6-1, putting him into the semi-final, against Finn Murgett. Barney played a solid first set, taking it 6-1, and despite missing a few balls, took the second set 6-3. This put Barney into the final, where he played Ben Davies.
Barney didn’t play as well as he’d hoped in his first set, and went down 2-6. He changed his tactics in the second set and took it in a tie-break. Winning the second set improved Barney’s attitude for the championship tie-break. He competed well and served consistently and took the third set 10-6.
Well done Barney!
