We had 60 entries for the annual Sponge Ball Challenge, where adults and children of all ages and abilities compete on a Mini Red court in a fun packed afternoon.
Our oldest entry was our Club President Graham Cooksey and our youngest player was Tom Frankland – an age difference of 75 years!
There were 8 groups and the top 2 players qualified for the knockout rounds. 9 year old Esa Butt adopted his Dad’s ‘I will not miss’ skills and hit his way through Ben Horner, Oscar Jessup and Tom Cooper, where he came upon Barney in the final, who had got past Lee Sweet’s fierce serving, and Hoggy and Ben Parkin’s left handed slicey serves. It was a tough final with Esa making Barney working hard for every ball, but Barney toughed it out and won 10-4!
Thank you to Mary for the food, Mark Thomas for the quiz sheets, Louisa for helping put everything together, and finally everyone for setting up and putting everything away! And a bigger thank you to Georgina for arranging the tournament!
