Hi,

Many of you will  know my son Joshua (Josh) Fowler.  He’s been part of the futures squads since he was 6 and now offers hits to the juniors as well as working part time in the gym.

What you might not be aware of is, in autumn 2022 he was diagnosed with, and lost most of an ear due to Melanoma. A kind rarely seen in adolescents. He is a very stoic young man and continued living his life as normal.

Because of this, he inspired my sister, his Aunt, to push boundaries and in the early summer of 2023 she completed an ultra challenge walk of 53km raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. A charity that supports 13-25 year olds and helps fund the Teenage and Young Adult units at most hospitals. They have, and post treatment, still are, supporting Joshua.

I wanted to reach out to his tennis family last year for support/donations to her fundraising efforts. Joshua being the private, unassuming person that he is, requested that I didn’t. This year I am reaching out, with his permission, to ask for fundraising support and  to help create a fitting legacy, for my sister, his aunt.

On Saturday 24 August, Jenny, set off on a challenge walk of 25km, again raising funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Unfortunately, she never finished, she never made it home. In the final stages of the walk, with the end in sight, she collapsed and despite valiant efforts from fellow charity walkers and eventually the paramedics, she was unable to be resuscitated.

She was a very active, healthy, fit person. We are all dumbfounded and numb with shock. We want to raise as much as we can for the charity that we hold dear to our hearts.  Joshua and Jenny held a special bond and were so similar in nature, sportiness AND competitiveness it’s unbelievable.

We have had a tremendous response from her work colleagues at British Antarctica Survey and facebooks Ultra Challenge community, whom she was part of, members of which were with her till the paramedics arrived. But we would like to go further and raise as much as is physically possible.

Without the efforts of the Teenage Cancer Trust, dedicated space and specialist support in hospitals would not be available for the teens and young adults.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Kindest,

Joanne
