The start of the new term saw the 2009 Thongsbridge Junior Club Championships get underway, with youngsters eager to crown their summer successes with their club title.

The under 12s got off to a flying start, with some impressively competitive matches, and it was a feisty performance from Joel Ezro that gave him the boys’ title, with Will Rowe a worthy runner up. The girls’ title went to Holly Horsfall, with the up and coming Emily Young taking the runners up trophy.

Holly, having enjoyed an excellent season, also came runner up in the under 14s, with Charlotte Kershaw’s strong showing giving her the title. Andrew Atkinson came through a strong field to take the boys under 14s and under 16s titles, with runners up Edward Saxton in the under 14s, and Edward Lovatt in the under 16s.

The girls’ under 16s saw Kim Atkinson secure victory, and she played some fine tennis to take the under 18s title also. Runner up in the under 16s was well deserved for Eilidh Maclean, with the talented Hannah Wightman taking the under 18s runners up award.

The under 18s boys had some fantastic matches, with the eventual winner, Christopher Prince, winning a thrilling 3 setter against Jonathon Dow, who came second.

Doubles under 14s titles went to Andrew Atkinson and Edward Lovatt, and Charlotte Kershaw and Harriet Richardson. The runners up were Joel Ezro and William Rowe, and Holly Horsfall and Eilidh Maclean.

In the under 18s doubles, the boys saw brothers Jonathon and Christopher Prince take the title, with Ben Boothroyd and David Leese worthy runners up. For the older girls, it was Hannah Wightman and Kim Atkinson who took the title, beating Debbie Horsfall and Camilla Churchill-Davies in the final.

The youngsters will all receive their trophies and a special prize presentation in December.
