Kids Fitness

For children, exercise means playing and being physically active, such as during gym class at school, soccer practice or dance lessons. Everyone can benefit from regular exercise. A child who is active will:

  1. Reduce the risk of heart disease 
  2. Help prevent obesity 
  3. Increase test scores and work ethic 
  4. Lower blood pressure 
  5. Prevent future life-threatening injuries (Hips, Shoulders, Knees, Back) 
  6. Improve self-esteem 
  7. Improve sleep 
  8. Improve life and over-all well being

In addition, regular exercise helps kids handle the physical and emotional challenges that a typical day presents whether that means running to catch a bus, bending down to tie a shoe, or studying for a test.

Once we have enough interest, fitness class will run on a Tuesday at 4.00pm. The prices are as follows:

Book a Kids Fitness Class

The kids Fitness sessions at Thongsbridge Tennis and Fitness Club are based upon the change 4 life development model to improve participation in sport and physical activity. Our aims are as follows;

  • Aimed at boys and girls aged 7 – 12
  • Sessions will last 45 min
  • Aim to target overweight and sedentary children 
  • Emphasise on multi skills, cardiovascular and muscular fitness 
  • Provide a fun well structured non periodised approach to exercise 
  • Provide a diversionary enjoyable path from sedentary activity 
  • Help reduce the prevalence of child hood obesity in Kirklees 
  • Provide opportunity to sample a wide range of movement activities in fun, playful and creative environments
  • Encourage regular physical activity

Each session will comprise of:

Warm Up

(Aim of the warm up is to get all participants ready for exercise, by increasing heart rate).

Main workout

(Aim of the main workout is to improve fitness levels through circuit games focusing on cardiovascular muscular fitness and team games focusing on agility, balance coordination and speed drills).

Cool down

(Aim of the cool down is to reduce heart rate).

Example of session plan for Thongsbridge Tennis and Fitness Club:

Warm up - Time

Simon Says - 5 Mins
Make 3 lines running parallel, name each line. Ask participants to go to each line by saying “Simon says” if the instructor does not say Simon says, the participants should not move.

Sprint and Lunge - 5 Mins
Place lots of objects in the middle of two participants, ask participants to sprint 5m in the other direction and bend to touch or retrieve an object, the sprint back. Count how many objects each participants have collected.

Follow the Leader (stretching game) - 5 Mins
The instructor leads the group by asking them to repeat movements and actions.

Main workout

Kids Circuit - 15 Mins
In pairs, lasting 1 minute at each station If 10 participants, you will need to set up 5 stations. (step, skipping, dribble with feet, throwing and catching, jumping jaxs)

Domes and Dishes (team game) - 5 Mins
Set out lots of half cones, placing some upwards and some downwards. Split the group into 2 teams. Ask participants to collect in a certain amount of time. Count which team got the most.

Cool Down

Get the Ball - 5 Mins
In pairs and a ball or object, ask participants to stand about 1m away from each other and place the ball in the middle of the two. On the instructors sound, each participant needs to react very quickly and get the ball. Repeat

Flying Saucers - 5 Mins
Get the group into 4 teams, then, number the participants in each group. Ask each team to stand in a corner, then the instructor stands and throws the half cones in the middle and shouts the number. Eg all 1s from each group would run into the middle and collect as much cones as possible.
