Being a member of Thongsbridge tennis club is a rewarding and fun lifestyle to choose. Families, individuals and couples alike find that there’s fun activities to suit all ages, abilities and budgets. Who can I ask about Membership and Social Events ? The receptionist can help you with most enquiries – telephone 01484 687160. Any of the Coaching Team can help you with coaching enquiries – phone numbers are on the coaches page. The Social events calendar is also enclosed and generally entry forms are displayed on the notice boards prior to the event. Also any of the Committee members can help you with your enquiries. For a downloadable version of the current membership form, click here. What about Membership ? Membership is open to all and the various categories are detailed on the form. The Club also requires all those taking part in coaching to become members so that they can benefit from all the facilities that the Club has to offer. This includes all juniors on the Mini Tennis Red, Orange and Green programmes. Shoe tags are issued to all members and the Committee request that these are worn at all times. For those new to tennis, we make the offer that you can join the coaching programme for one block without joining the Club, but thereafter, we require all those on the coaching programme to become members. After September in the membership year, we reduce the fees accordingly. What happens after I join and I turn up to play outdoors ? Access to the Clubhouse is via the main entrance to the club house. When are the outdoor courts available ? When the courts are all in use, or people are waiting to play, one short set (tie-break at 5 all) should be played. Members have unrestricted access to the courts except for: Monday and Tuesday Summer evenings when ladies’ and mens’ league matches are played Friday evening when Juniors have priority on 6 courts Saturday mornings when all courts are used for coaching and Junior matches Courts previously booked for coaching purposes. Please consult the club notice board On Sunday mornings, when 2 outdoor courts are to be available for adult doubles play other than match practice or match finishing Courts needed on previously published weekend days for National League matches (four singles followed by two doubles matches – FOUR COURTS) Yorkshire League (nine doubles matches – THREE COURTS) and Yorkshire Veterans League matches (four doubles matches – TWO COURTS) Courts needed for previously published events such as Club Tournaments The diary in the clubhouse should list all the dates when the courts are required for matches or coaching. When courts are required for matches, team managers or captains should write the dates in the diary so that all members are aware of when matches or competitions are taking part. Can I bring a friend to play who is not a member ? Any member wishing to introduce a non-member to the Club shall, upon entering the premises, sign the name(s) in the visitor’s book. The introducing member shall be responsible for ensuring that a visitor’s fee of £5.00 is paid. NO VISITOR SHALL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY MORE THAN 5 TIMES PER SEASON. Only senior and intermediate members may introduce visitors and they shall be held responsible for their visitors. Do I have to pay extra to hire a court ? No, not if it is outdoors apart from if floodlights are required. Coaching will now occupy more time on the indoor courts in the summer due to additional courses especially for adult beginners, improvers and match practice. Therefore, the indoor courts will NOT generally be available for Club evenings or for completion of matches. Members and Non members can book the indoor courts however, by contacting the Club reception on 01484 687160 or by signing your name on the booking sheets at the reception. Court costs are currently £16.40 per hour (£12.40 per hour off-peak) for members, non members have to pay an additional visitor's fee of £5.00 each. Indoor courts can be booked up to 7 days in advance and payment should be made to reception. Pre booked courts must still be paid for even if the booking is not taken up. There is an indoor walk on rate for members which is £8.00 at all times. Walk on rate applicable to courts available up to 5 minutes prior to play. No prebooking allowed. At peak demand, list to be kept of those waiting for walk on court. Box league rate for members is £6.00 per hour at all time. Again you can book 7 days in advance and if not used, full payment must be made. Details of indoor block bookings for the following winter will be sent out during July when courts will be allocated either by ballot or application to be decided by the Committee. What about floodlights on the outdoor courts ? The cost of the lights is £4.00 per hour per court for all outdoor courts, both for juniors and seniors. The meters operate using outdoor tokens (coded L2) of 30 minutes use and these will be available from the Club reception. Floodlights may be used up to 10.30pm but junior members may only use the floodlights when an adult member is present. Can I learn to play tennis to a better standard ? The Club runs a full summer coaching programme for everyone, adults and children, from beginners to team players. Details can be downloaded here
