Smiles, education and opportunity
Whilst used TTFC tennis balls are bringing smiles all round at a Ghanaian school, tennis member Mark Jefferies reports back from a village in rural Ghana, where he and Chris Sharp from the Chantry Rotary Club are helping on an inspirational build project.
Back in 2022, the Rotary Club helped support the build of both a computer laboratory and a library, essential to the education of young people in these rural communities. What they also identified was the lack of opportunities for girls once they left school and have since worked to create an exciting new development in the form of the Frankadua Sewing Academy. The academy will teach the girls both sewing skills and business skills to help support themselves and their families.
The build will be located close to main road infrastructure to maximise exposure to passing trade. The longer term will see produce, such as silk pillowcases, exported around the world!
The charity has managed to raise £6,500 to date to help complete this essential community project. However, with groundwork, electrical, roofing and painting costs estimated at nearer double that amount, there is still a lot of fundraising to do.
If you feel you can help Mark, the charity and the families of Frankadua, please click through to their fundraising page and donate what you can. Every donation made is being match funded by Camel Precast Solutions Ltd. Let’s help get this project over the line and help spread those smiles across the community.
