What is Older Health Kicks?

Thanks to a successful bid for National Lottery Community Funding, we are proud to announce a new and exciting initiative, supporting older people and the elderly within Thongsbridge and our neighbouring communities of Holmfirth, New Mill and Wooldale. 

Whatever the barriers may have been to date for these individuals participating in an active pastime – perhaps increased demands and challenges as a direct result of the cost-of-living crisis, existing mobility issues, disabilities, mental health needs, or even long-term illnesses – our welcoming team has developed the most accessible classes to encourage all to take part.

Our classes will help rebuild confidence, self-esteem, and improve both mental and physical health, combatting feelings of isolation and anxiety. The opportunity to build new relationships and friendships will ultimately provide a valuable support network as each is able to socially connect with others in the surrounding community.

Our sessions are greatly subsidised and are available to non-members, over the age of 60. They have been designed to rebuild strength, improve mobility and essentially, balance – ideal for those whose fear of falling is sometimes a barrier to getting out. All activity is low impact, and no previous experience of sport, fitness or movement classes is necessary, our instructors work to the pace of each individual.

Classes cost just £3, which includes a coffee or tea in our Courtside Café – perfect for a social catch up afterwards!


Chair Pilates Mondays 1.15pm-2pm

A selection of low impact exercises for a full body workout which can be done seated or standing. This includes strengthening of the muscles, mobility of the joints and a good kick starter to getting the body moving again! No experience is needed for this class, as we aim to help and encourage everyone through the exercises in a safe and supportive environment.

Barre Thursdays 1pm-1.45pm

Barre is a low impact full body workout that combines the fundamentals of Ballet and Pilates, with each movement aimed at improving overall wellness and mobility in a safe and supportive environment. No experience is needed for this class as together we will ease into these exercises making sure everyone is comfortable and confident to bring out the best version of you!
