As the 12 Counties Event gets underway, Jake Young is the latest Thongsbridge protégé to achieve County honours. This talented youngster was one of only 4 players to be selected for the under 10s team from across Yorkshire, and headed off to the coldest tennis centre in the UK, Corby, to compete in the top division of this prestigious inter- county tournament.
The Yorkshire boys faced tough opposition from Cambridgeshire, Essex, and Hertfordshire, and Jake was in superb form, securing 2 solid wins out of his 3 matches played. The rubbers were tight, and after a day of fierce competition, Yorkshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire were all tied at 8 wins each. After a count back of sets won, Yorkshire were very unlucky to come in at 3rd place.
The 12 Counties event will be played out over the coming weeks, with teams in all age groups, right through to the seniors all contributing to Yorkshire’s final standing in the 1st division. On current form, it seems likely that Thongsbridge players are likely to be in action across the age groups.
Meanwhile, Matthis Ross was competing in an under 10s event in Graves tennis centre in Sheffield, and he produced some excellent tennis before losing out in the semi finals.
Ant it was to be semi finals also for Ellie Chawner, also under 10s, competing In Nottingham, where her convincing 1st round win saw her secure sufficient wins to move her rating up to the top of division 9.
