Closing the summer on a high!
Thongsbridge Open day and Fundraiser!
As the sun (almost) rose early Saturday, we set about the final touches to the preparation for the Thongsbridge Open day and charity fundraiser. What a day it turned out to be! Between a 12-hour epic tennis marathon, members challenging the ball machine, kids going crazy for tombola prizes, serve speeds being recorded (and Jack Drummond trying his best to take out the machine!) and the most delicious chef takeover of the barbecue, there was not much missing from the perfect day!
In fact, the buzz around the club was palpable; such a day of positive energy and fun, it’s the tonic we all needed and a return to what this club is all about. As members arrived and joined in the spirit of the day, Stuart Hughes, with his huge fundraising target to achieve, set about pacing himself through 12 hours on non-stop tennis. His early opponents were not going easy on him either! He had a slightly easier time of it with the mini orange doubles at midday, but even 8- and 9-year-olds can play mean when needed!
Eric Paxman of Eric’s Restaurant, Lindley, not only supplied the tastiest of barbecue favourites, but stayed for the duration to make sure everyone was well fed for the day. Huge thanks to Eric and right hand, Kay, for their support during the day. The perfect carb/protein combination to keep everyone going!
The sun finally did appear and made for a wonderful evening, everyone relaxing after a fun-packed day. For those who made it down to club, a huge thanks from us all. And for those who couldn’t, rest assured, this is just the start of the renewed social scene at Thongsbridge! We’re just getting warmed up!
