A million steps, plenty of determination, and a little help from Harry!

This summer, I’ve taken on a bit of a challenge — one million steps for Diabetes UK, from 1st June to the end of September.

To reach the million-step target, I need to average around 10,800 steps every day. And I’m not doing it alone… my 10-month-old son, Harry, has been joining me for the journey!

I’ve been diabetic since I was diagnosed at just nine years old, so Diabetes UK is a charity that is very close to my heart. Over the past 25 years, I’ve seen so many changes in the way diabetes is managed, and I’d love to see even more progress over the next 25 years — making life easier for children and adults living with diabetes.

Harry has become my little walking companion, travelling along in his pram. Thankfully, he spends a lot of the time sleeping while I get the steps in! Although, despite doing absolutely none of the walking himself, he somehow still seems to be finding the challenge really tough!

So far, we’ve raised £425, which I’m incredibly grateful for, but I’d love to beat my previous fundraising target of £750. Every donation, however big or small, will help support Diabetes UK and the work they do.

For those who know me at the club, you’ll probably know that I’ve worked here since I was 14 years old, so the club has been a huge part of my life. It’s been lovely that, even while I’m on maternity leave, Harry has become a regular little visitor himself!

We’re now into the final stretch, with just over a week left to complete the challenge! There are still plenty of steps to get through, but Harry and I are determined to make it to that one million-step finish line.

If you’d like to support us and help us reach — and hopefully beat — our £750 fundraising target, we’d be incredibly grateful. Thank you to everyone who has already donated and supported us along the way!
