Owen played in the City of Manchester Open on 23rd May. He played 2 qualifying matches, winning them both comfortably in 2 sets. Owen went on to play Luca Knowles in the quarter final and came through in 2 sets 7-2 7-3. His semi final opponent was the number 1 seed Cameron Cowan, this match went to 3 sets with Owen winning 7-3 1-7 7-4. Owen’s opponent in the final was Tomas Grime from Cumbria and he stayed strong and won the final 7-4 7-4.
Owen then travelled to Glasgow on the weekend of the 5th June to compete in the Glasgow Grade 2 competition at Scotstoun Tennis Centre. He played three qualification matches and he won all of them in 2 sets which meant he finished top of his group and straight into the main draw. Owen played Joel Barnes in the quarter final and won 7-3 9-7 putting him into the semi final against Will Jepson, his consistency and focus in this match got him the win in 2 sets, 7-5 7-3. Owen was up against local player Liam O’Brien in the final and he lost the first set 7-5 but stayed positive and came through to win the second set 7-5. The third set tie-break was very close but Owen stayed calm and went on to win 8-6.
