Living the dream!
When your love of tennis spills over into a dedication to support wherever you can, it’s amazing what opportunities can arise. This week, junior member and tennis fanatic, Matilda Spragg, has found herself living a dream she has held for some time.
And no, it’s not the obvious on-court wins we all crave. Matilda was selected as one of only three Yorkshire girls to join the 70-strong ball crew at the Nottingham Open! Not only is that some achievement, but Matilda had to go through trials alongside 250 other hopefuls before the final team was selected. Even more impressively, she is one of the youngest to join the crew this year.
After completing her training, Matilda proudly prepared her kit for a nine-day stint at the event. And long days they are too, with play running from 8.30am through to 7.30pm. But it’s all worth it. Imagine the excitement when Matilda heard that one of her heroes, Katie Boulter, had received a wildcard for the main draw, only for disappointment to follow when she later withdrew. Still, Matilda was lucky enough to see her practising! With so many players around that she looks up to, she has also managed to capture a couple of photos to treasure.
It’s no easy job and has taken relentless hours of training and travel back and forth to Nottingham, but it has all been worth it to fulfil such a special dream. It’s wonderful to see your hard work and commitment paying off in the best way, Matilda. We hope the remaining days of the tournament are just as exciting, enjoy every minute. You have done yourself proud!
